How to Measure Your Kitchen Before a Design Consultation
Provincial Cabinets · October 23, 2026
A simple step-by-step guide to measuring your kitchen — walls, windows, doors and appliances — so your free 3D kitchen design starts accurate.
What you'll need
A tape measure, a pencil and paper (or your phone), and about 20 minutes. Rough measurements are fine — our team confirms everything before anything is ordered.
1. Sketch the room
Draw a simple outline of your kitchen from above. Don't worry about scale; this is just a map to write your measurements on.
2. Measure each wall
Measure every wall from corner to corner at about counter height, and write each length on your sketch. Note the ceiling height too.
3. Mark windows, doors and openings
For each window and door, measure its width, the distance from the nearest corner, and for windows, the height from the floor to the sill.
4. Note plumbing, gas and electrical
Mark where the sink, dishwasher, stove or gas line, and any outlets or light switches are. These help us plan a layout that works with your space.
5. List your appliances
Write down the width of your fridge, range and dishwasher, especially if you're keeping them.
6. Take photos
Photograph each wall straight on. Photos help our designers understand details that are hard to sketch. You can upload them, along with your measurements, in our free 3D design form.
